ICI-204,448
ICI-204,448 is a drug which acts as a potent and selective agonist for the κ-opioid receptor. It has analgesic effects and has been used in scientific research. It was first developed by the pharmaceutical company Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI).
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
ICI-204,448 is a synthetic compound of the benzomorphan class. Benzomorphans are a class of opioids that are structurally distinct from the opioids derived from the opium poppy, such as morphine and codeine. They are characterized by a benzene ring fused to a morphinan skeleton.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
As a κ-opioid receptor agonist, ICI-204,448 has the ability to induce analgesic effects. The κ-opioid receptor is one of the three main types of opioid receptors in the body, the others being the μ-opioid receptor and the δ-opioid receptor. Agonists of the κ-opioid receptor can produce analgesia, but they also have a number of other effects, including diuresis, dysphoria, and hallucinations.
Medical Use[edit | edit source]
While ICI-204,448 has been used in scientific research, it is not currently approved for medical use. Its primary use has been in the study of the κ-opioid receptor and the effects of its activation.
