iPhone 12 Pro is a smartphone designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc. It is part of the iPhone series, succeeding the iPhone 11 Pro and preceding the iPhone 13 Pro. The iPhone 12 Pro was officially announced on October 13, 2020, alongside the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, and iPhone 12 Pro Max, making it one of the four models in the 12th generation of the iPhone.

Design[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 12 Pro features a new design compared to its predecessor, adopting a flat-edged stainless steel frame reminiscent of the iPhone 4's design. It is available in four finishes: Graphite, Silver, Gold, and Pacific Blue. The front and back of the device are made of a ceramic shield material, which Apple claims offers better durability than any other smartphone glass.

Specifications[edit | edit source]

Hardware[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 12 Pro is powered by the A14 Bionic chip, which is the first 5-nanometer processor in a smartphone, offering improved performance and energy efficiency over the previous A13 chip. It features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, a significant upgrade from the LCD displays found in earlier models. The device supports 5G connectivity, providing faster download and upload speeds where available.

The iPhone 12 Pro comes with a triple-camera system on the back, consisting of a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 12-megapixel wide camera, and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera. It also introduces new photography features, including Night mode on all cameras, Deep Fusion, and an improved Smart HDR. For the first time, Apple has included a LiDAR scanner in an iPhone, which enhances augmented reality (AR) experiences and improves autofocus in low-light conditions.

Software[edit | edit source]

The device initially shipped with iOS 14, introducing new features such as widgets on the Home screen, an App Library for organizing apps, and enhanced privacy features. Subsequent iOS updates have continued to enhance the iPhone 12 Pro's capabilities.

Reception[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 12 Pro received positive reviews from critics and consumers alike, who praised its design, camera improvements, and 5G support. However, some criticized the high price and the lack of a significant battery life improvement over its predecessor.

Environmental Impact[edit | edit source]

Apple emphasized its environmental efforts with the iPhone 12 Pro, including the removal of the power adapter and EarPods from the box, which the company stated was a decision made to reduce carbon emissions and waste. The iPhone 12 Pro is also made with recycled materials, including recycled rare earth elements in all magnets.
