Igf like family member 3
Igf-like family member 3 (IGFL3) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IGFL3 gene. IGFL3 is a member of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) family, which plays a crucial role in cell growth, development, and metabolism.
Function[edit | edit source]
The insulin-like growth factor family consists of several proteins that share structural similarities with insulin and play important roles in various physiological processes. IGFL3, like other members of the IGF family, is believed to function as a growth factor and may be involved in the regulation of cell growth and development. However, the exact function of IGFL3 is not fully understood and is the subject of ongoing research.
Structure[edit | edit source]
The IGFL3 protein is a single-chain polypeptide that shares structural similarities with other members of the IGF family. It consists of an amino acid sequence that includes a signal peptide, a mature peptide, and a C-terminal extension. The mature peptide is believed to be the biologically active part of the protein.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
Alterations in the IGFL3 gene have been associated with various diseases. For example, mutations in the IGFL3 gene have been linked to growth disorders, cancer, and metabolic syndrome. However, more research is needed to fully understand the role of IGFL3 in these conditions.
