Illovo Sugar is a leading, global, low-cost sugar producer and a significant manufacturer of high-value downstream products. The company is Africa's biggest sugar producer and has extensive agricultural and manufacturing operations in six African countries. The group produces raw and refined sugar, and downstream products such as furfural and its derivatives, lactulose and other biomass related products, and co-generates electricity.

Illovo Sugar was established in 1891 and has grown steadily since its inception. The company was initially a single, small sugar mill based in the Illovo Valley, KwaZulu-Natal. Today, Illovo Sugar is a subsidiary of Associated British Foods (ABF), which holds a 51.35% equity interest.
Operations[edit | edit source]
Illovo Sugar's operations are primarily focused in sub-Saharan Africa, where it operates 6 sugar mills and numerous sugar cane estates. The company's operations span six countries: South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia. Illovo Sugar's products are marketed and sold domestically, regionally, and internationally.
