Immunogenetics is the branch of medical genetics that explores the relationship between the immune system and genetics. This field of study is significant in understanding the pathogenesis of several diseases that involve the immune system, and it also aids in the development of novel therapeutic strategies for such diseases.

Immunogenetics focuses on the ways in which genetic factors influence the immune response. T cells are a type of white blood cell that play a crucial role in the immune response. The genes that encode the T cell receptor, which recognizes and binds to foreign antigens, are another important area of study in immunogenetics.

Immunogenetics has numerous clinical applications, including in the diagnosis and treatment of immune disorders, the development of vaccines, and in transplantation medicine. For example, HLA typing is used to match donors and recipients for organ transplantation.
