Independence Mall

Independence Mall is a three-block public park located in the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It lies directly north of the Liberty Bell Center and the Independence Hall, and is part of the city's most historic square mile known for its rich American Revolutionary history.

The Independence Mall was conceived during the Great Depression as part of the urban renewal project. The project was initiated by the National Park Service to create a fitting setting for the Independence Hall, which was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979.

Layout[edit | edit source]

The three blocks of the Independence Mall are numbered from south to north, with the first block closest to the Independence Hall. Each block has its own distinct features and attractions.

First Block[edit | edit source]

The first block of the Independence Mall is home to the Liberty Bell Center, which houses the iconic Liberty Bell. It also features the President's House, where Presidents George Washington and John Adams lived while Philadelphia was the temporary capital of the United States.

Second Block[edit | edit source]

The second block contains the National Constitution Center, a museum dedicated to the United States Constitution. It also features the Congress Hall, where the United States Congress met from 1790 to 1800.

Third Block[edit | edit source]

The third block is the location of the National Museum of American Jewish History and the Philadelphia Bourse, a historic building that now serves as a food court and retail center.

Events[edit | edit source]

Independence Mall serves as a venue for many public events, including concerts, protests, and public gatherings. It is also a popular tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors each year.
