History[edit | edit source]
The Indian Psychiatric Society was founded in 1947, the same year India gained independence. The society was established with the aim of promoting mental health and psychiatric services in India. The founding members were a group of eminent psychiatrists who were keen on developing the field of psychiatry in India.
Objectives[edit | edit source]
The main objectives of the IPS are to promote the study of psychiatry in India, to improve mental health services, and to ensure high standards of practice among its members. The society also aims to promote research in psychiatry and allied disciplines, and to foster collaboration between psychiatrists and professionals in other related fields.
Activities[edit | edit source]
The IPS organizes various activities throughout the year, including the annual national conference, regional conferences, and workshops. These events provide a platform for members to share their research findings, discuss clinical cases, and learn about the latest developments in the field of psychiatry.
The society also publishes the Indian Journal of Psychiatry, a peer-reviewed medical journal that covers all aspects of psychiatry. The journal is published quarterly and is available both in print and online.
