Indiana Medical History Museum

It was part of the larger Central State Hospital, which was established in 1848 as the Indiana Hospital for the Insane. The hospital was a self-sufficient community with its own farm, dairy, and water supply. The Pathology Building was used for research, teaching, and the diagnosis of mental illnesses until it was abandoned in the 1960s when newer facilities were built.

In 1969, the Indiana Medical History Museum was established to preserve the Old Pathology Building and its contents. The museum was recognized for its historical and architectural significance and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
