Interstate Bakeries Corporation (IBC) was one of the largest wholesale bakers and distributors of bakery products in the United States. The company was founded in 1930 and was headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. IBC was known for producing a variety of baked goods, including bread, cakes, and snack cakes.

Interstate Bakeries Corporation was established in 1930 through the merger of several regional bakeries. Over the years, the company expanded its operations by acquiring other bakeries and brands. In 1995, IBC acquired the Hostess and Wonder Bread brands, which became some of its most well-known products.

Bankruptcy and Reorganization[edit | edit source]

In 2004, IBC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to financial difficulties. The company emerged from bankruptcy in 2009 but continued to face challenges. In 2012, IBC filed for bankruptcy again and announced plans to liquidate its assets. The company's brands and assets were eventually sold to various buyers, including Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co..
