Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) is a humanitarian organization that operates within the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the world's largest humanitarian network. The IRCS is dedicated to alleviating human suffering, protecting life and health, and upholding human dignity especially during armed conflicts and disasters. It provides services in the areas of disaster relief, health services, and promotion of health and safety measures.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society was established in 1922, following the ratification of the Red Crescent Society establishment law by the Iranian Parliament. It was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1924 and became a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the same year. Since its inception, the IRCS has played a significant role in providing relief in times of disaster and conflict within Iran and in the broader region.

The mission of the Iranian Red Crescent Society is to enhance the health, safety, and well-being of all people without discrimination. Its activities include:

  • Disaster Response and Preparedness: The IRCS responds to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and droughts, providing emergency relief and support to affected populations. It also works on disaster preparedness programs to mitigate the impact of future disasters.
  • Health Services: It offers health and medical services, including first aid training, health education, and operation of hospitals and medical facilities.
  • Youth and Volunteer Programs: The IRCS has a strong volunteer base and engages in various programs to involve youth in its humanitarian activities.
  • Blood Donation: The organization plays a key role in the national blood donation program, ensuring the availability of safe and sufficient blood supplies.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society is structured to ensure efficient delivery of its services across Iran. The National Society's headquarters is located in Tehran, from where it coordinates its national and international operations.

As a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the IRCS participates in international humanitarian efforts and cooperates with other Red Cross and Red Crescent societies. It has been involved in various international relief operations, providing assistance in times of crisis outside Iran.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society faces challenges related to international sanctions and political issues that sometimes affect its operations and the procurement of supplies. Despite these challenges, it continues to fulfill its humanitarian mission both within Iran and internationally.
