From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

JDRF (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is a non-profit organization that funds type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. The organization's mission is to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D.

History[edit | edit source]

JDRF was founded in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes. The organization has since become a leading global organization funding T1D research. The organization's research mission is to discover, develop, and deliver advances that cure, better treat, and prevent T1D.

Research[edit | edit source]

JDRF's research focuses on four areas: curing T1D, treating T1D, preventing T1D, and improving the lives of all people affected by T1D. The organization funds research projects in these areas around the world.

Curing T1D[edit | edit source]

JDRF's research in curing T1D focuses on restoring a person's insulin-producing capability and halting or reversing the body's misguided immune attack on the pancreas.

Treating T1D[edit | edit source]

JDRF's research in treating T1D focuses on developing new ways to keep people with T1D healthy until a cure is found. This includes developing therapies that improve glucose control and reduce the risk of complications.

Preventing T1D[edit | edit source]

JDRF's research in preventing T1D focuses on stopping the disease from developing in those at risk.

Improving Lives[edit | edit source]

JDRF's research in improving lives focuses on developing new technologies and therapies that make it easier for people with T1D to live healthy lives.

Advocacy[edit | edit source]

JDRF advocates for the T1D community to ensure access to new therapies and treatments, and to accelerate the pace of research.
