JZL-184

JZL-184 is a drug that acts as a selective inhibitor of the enzyme monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL). It was developed by the pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson and is used in scientific research to study the endocannabinoid system.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

JZL-184 is a potent and selective inhibitor of MAGL, the primary enzyme responsible for degrading the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG). By inhibiting MAGL, JZL-184 increases levels of 2-AG in the brain, leading to enhanced cannabinoid receptor activation.

JZL-184 is used in scientific research to study the role of the endocannabinoid system in various physiological and pathological processes. It has been used in studies investigating the effects of increased 2-AG levels on pain, inflammation, mood, and other aspects of brain function.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

As a research tool, JZL-184 is not used in humans and therefore its side effects are not well characterized. However, studies in animals have suggested that chronic use of JZL-184 can lead to desensitization of the cannabinoid receptors and tolerance to the effects of increased 2-AG levels.
