Jacques Daléchamps
Jacques Daléchamps (1513 – 1588) was a French physician, botanist, and translator. He is best known for his extensive work in the field of botany and his contributions to the translation of ancient medical texts.

Jacques Daléchamps was born in Caen, France in 1513. He pursued his medical studies at the University of Montpellier, one of the leading medical schools of the time. Daléchamps earned his medical degree in 1547 and began practicing medicine shortly thereafter.

Daléchamps initially practiced medicine in Lyon, where he gained a reputation as a skilled physician. He was particularly interested in the study of plants and their medicinal properties, which led him to become a prominent figure in the field of botany.

Daléchamps is best known for his work Historia Generalis Plantarum, an extensive botanical text published in 1586. This work was one of the most comprehensive botanical references of its time, detailing over 2,700 plant species. It included descriptions, illustrations, and information on the medicinal uses of various plants. Daléchamps' work was highly influential and served as a reference for many subsequent botanists.
