Jamal Zahalka (Arabic: جمال زحالقة , born 11 January 1955) is an Israeli Arab politician. He served as a member of the Knesset for the Balad party from 2003 to 2019.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Zahalka was born in Kafr Qara, a village in northern Israel. He studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he earned a degree in pharmacy. He later completed a PhD in pharmacology.

Political career[edit | edit source]

Zahalka joined the Balad party, which advocates for the rights of the Arab citizens of Israel. He was first elected to the Knesset in the 2003 elections. During his tenure, he was known for his outspoken views on Israeli-Palestinian relations and his advocacy for Arab minority rights.

In 2007, Zahalka became the leader of the Balad party, succeeding Azmi Bishara. He continued to serve in the Knesset until 2019, when he announced his retirement from politics.

Zahalka is married and has three children. He resides in Kafr Qara.
