James E. K. Hildreth is an American immunologist and academic administrator known for his significant contributions to the field of HIV/AIDS research and his leadership in medical education. He currently serves as the president and chief executive officer of Meharry Medical College, a historically black medical school in Nashville, Tennessee.

James E. K. Hildreth was born in Camden, Arkansas. He demonstrated an early interest in science, which led him to pursue higher education in the field. Hildreth attended Harvard University, where he graduated with a degree in chemistry. He then went on to study at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, earning a doctorate in immunology. Following his time at Oxford, Hildreth attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he obtained his medical degree.
