Fictional character biography[edit | edit source]
Jane Foster was originally introduced as a nurse employed by Dr. Donald Blake, the alter ego of Thor. Over time, she became a doctor herself. Jane and Thor developed a romantic relationship, but it was often complicated by his duties as a superhero and Asgardian prince.
Becoming Thor[edit | edit source]
In the storyline "Original Sin," Thor becomes unworthy to wield his hammer, Mjolnir. Jane Foster, who is battling breast cancer, proves herself worthy and takes up the mantle of Thor. As the new Thor, she joins the Avengers and fights numerous villains, including Malekith the Accursed and Dario Agger.
Valkyrie[edit | edit source]
After her time as Thor, Jane Foster later becomes the new Valkyrie, continuing her role as a superhero and protector of the realms.
Powers and abilities[edit | edit source]
As Thor, Jane Foster possesses all the powers of the original Thor, including superhuman strength, speed, durability, and the ability to control lightning. She can also fly using Mjolnir. As Valkyrie, she wields the weapon known as Dragonfang and has enhanced physical abilities.
In other media[edit | edit source]
Jane Foster has appeared in various Marvel Cinematic Universe films, portrayed by Natalie Portman. She appears in Thor (2011), Thor: The Dark World (2013), and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), where she takes on the mantle of Thor.
