Javlor

Javlor is a chemotherapy drug used in the treatment of various types of cancer. It is also known by its generic name, vinflunine. Javlor is a type of vinca alkaloid, a group of drugs that interfere with the growth of cancer cells by stopping cell division.

Javlor was developed by the French pharmaceutical company Pierre Fabre. It was approved for use in the European Union in 2009. The drug is currently not approved by the FDA for use in the United States.

Medical uses[edit | edit source]

Javlor is used in the treatment of advanced or metastatic transitional cell carcinoma of the urothelial tract, a type of bladder cancer. It is used when other treatments, such as surgery or radiation therapy, are not suitable or have not worked.

Mechanism of action[edit | edit source]

As a vinca alkaloid, Javlor works by interfering with the growth of cancer cells. It does this by binding to a part of the cell called the microtubule, which is involved in cell division. By binding to the microtubules, Javlor prevents the cancer cells from dividing and growing.

Side effects[edit | edit source]

Like all chemotherapy drugs, Javlor can cause side effects. These can include nausea, vomiting, constipation, fatigue, and neutropenia, a decrease in white blood cells that can increase the risk of infection.
