Jerusalem
Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel, though its status is internationally disputed. It is one of the oldest cities in the world, and is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Jerusalem's history dates back to at least the fourth millennium BCE, making it one of the oldest cities in the world. The city has been destroyed at least twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Jerusalem is located on a plateau in the Judaean Mountains between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea. The city is 60 kilometers (37 mi) east of Tel Aviv and the Mediterranean Sea, and 35 kilometers (22 mi) west of the Dead Sea.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of 2021, the population of Jerusalem is 900,000, making it the largest city in Israel, and the third largest city in the Levant region, after Amman and Beirut.
Religion[edit | edit source]
Jerusalem is a city of major significance for the three largest monotheistic religions; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The city contains a number of significant ancient Christian sites, and is considered the third-holiest city in Islam.
Government[edit | edit source]
Jerusalem is governed by a city council headed by a mayor. The city is also the seat of the Government of Israel, with the Knesset (Israel's parliament), the Supreme Court of Israel, and the official residences of the President of Israel and Prime Minister of Israel.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Jerusalem's economy is diverse, with sectors including tourism, biomedical technology, and cultural institutions.
Education[edit | edit source]
Jerusalem is home to several prestigious universities, including the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Al-Quds University.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Jerusalem is rich in historical and archaeological sites, and is a major center for biblical archaeology. The city is also home to numerous cultural and artistic venues, museums, and festivals.
