Joseph Bastianich (born September 17, 1968) is an American restaurateur, winemaker, author, and television personality. He is a co-owner of many restaurants, including Babbo Ristorante e Enoteca, Del Posto, and Lupa Osteria Romana in Manhattan; Carnevino in Las Vegas; and Pizzeria Mozza and Osteria Mozza in Los Angeles and Singapore. Bastianich is also a judge on the television shows MasterChef and MasterChef Italia.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Bastianich was born in Queens, New York, to Italian immigrants Lidia Bastianich and Felice Bastianich. He attended Fordham Preparatory School, and went on to receive a B.A. in English Literature from Boston College in 1991.

Career[edit | edit source]

After graduating from Boston College, Bastianich worked as a bond trader on Wall Street for a few years before moving to Italy to study food and wine. While there, he met his future business partner, Mario Batali, and the two went on to open several restaurants together.

Bastianich is a successful winemaker, producing wine under the brands Azienda Agricola Bastianich, La Mozza, and Domaine les Alexandrins. In 2010, he released a memoir, Restaurant Man, about his experiences in the restaurant industry.

In addition to his work in the food and wine industry, Bastianich is a judge on the television shows MasterChef and MasterChef Italia. He has also made guest appearances on shows such as Hell's Kitchen and Top Gear.

Bastianich is married to Deanna Bastianich, and the couple has three children. He is also the brother of Tanya Bastianich Manuali and the son of Lidia Bastianich.

Bastianich is a judge on the television shows MasterChef and MasterChef Italia, alongside Gordon Ramsay and Graham Elliot. He has also made guest appearances on other television shows such as Hell's Kitchen and Top Gear.

In 2018, Bastianich starred in a CNBC show called Restaurant Startup, where he invests in and mentors new restaurant concepts.
