John Barrasso
John Anthony Barrasso III (born July 21, 1952) is an American politician and physician serving as the senior United States Senator from Wyoming. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
John Barrasso was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. He attended Georgetown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree followed by a Doctor of Medicine degree. Barrasso completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Yale School of Medicine.
Medical career[edit | edit source]
Before entering politics, Barrasso worked as an orthopedic surgeon in Casper, Wyoming. He was also the chief of staff of the Wyoming Medical Center. Barrasso was known for his work in the field of orthopedics and was involved in various medical organizations, including serving as president of the Wyoming Medical Society.
Political career[edit | edit source]
Barrasso was appointed to the United States Senate in 2007 following the death of Senator Craig L. Thomas. He was subsequently elected to a full term in 2008 and re-elected in 2012 and 2018. In the Senate, Barrasso has served on several committees, including the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, and the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
John Barrasso is married to Bobbi Brown, and they have three children. He is an active member of the Presbyterian Church.
