John Fox (born February 8, 1955) is a former American football coach. He served as the head coach for multiple teams in the National Football League (NFL), including the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Chicago Bears.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

John Fox was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He attended Castle Park High School in Chula Vista, California, where he played football. Fox went on to play college football at San Diego State University, where he was a defensive back.

Coaching Career[edit | edit source]

Early Coaching Positions[edit | edit source]

Fox began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at San Diego State University. He then held various assistant coaching positions at several colleges, including Boise State University, University of Kansas, Iowa State University, and University of Pittsburgh.

NFL Coaching Career[edit | edit source]

Fox entered the NFL as the defensive backs coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1989. He later served as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Raiders, New York Giants, and Carolina Panthers.

Carolina Panthers[edit | edit source]

In 2002, Fox was hired as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers. Under his leadership, the Panthers reached Super Bowl XXXVIII in the 2003 season, where they were narrowly defeated by the New England Patriots. Fox remained with the Panthers until 2010.

Denver Broncos[edit | edit source]

Fox became the head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2011. During his tenure, the Broncos won four consecutive AFC West titles and appeared in Super Bowl XLVIII, where they were defeated by the Seattle Seahawks. Fox and the Broncos parted ways after the 2014 season.

Chicago Bears[edit | edit source]

In 2015, Fox was hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. He coached the Bears for three seasons before being dismissed in 2017.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

John Fox is married to Robin Fox, and they have three children. He is known for his philanthropic efforts and involvement in various charitable organizations.
