John T. Wood (Idaho congressman)

John Travers Wood (January 11, 1878 – November 2, 1954) was an American physician and politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Idaho. He was a member of the Republican Party.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

John Travers Wood was born in Valparaiso, Indiana. He attended the University of Chicago and later graduated from the Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1907. After completing his medical degree, Wood moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he began his medical practice.

Medical career[edit | edit source]

Wood was a prominent physician in Coeur d'Alene and was known for his contributions to the local medical community. He served as the president of the Idaho State Medical Society and was actively involved in various medical organizations.

Political career[edit | edit source]

Wood entered politics as a member of the Republican Party. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1950, representing Idaho's 1st congressional district. During his tenure, he focused on issues related to healthcare, veterans' affairs, and infrastructure development. Wood served in Congress until his death in 1954.

John Travers Wood was married to Mabel Wood and had three children. He was an active member of his community and was involved in various civic organizations.
