Johnny Abarrientos
Johnny Abarrientos (born July 17, 1970) is a retired professional basketball player from the Philippines. He is considered one of the greatest point guards in Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) history.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Abarrientos was born in Pasay, Philippines. He developed a passion for basketball at a young age, often playing in local leagues and school competitions.
Career[edit | edit source]
Abarrientos began his professional career in 1993 when he was drafted by the Alaska Milkmen, a team in the PBA. He quickly made a name for himself with his quickness, agility, and ability to make crucial plays. His performance earned him the nickname "The Flying A" due to his impressive speed and leaping ability.
In 1996, Abarrientos received the PBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, solidifying his status as one of the top players in the league. He played for the Alaska Milkmen until 2000, after which he transferred to several other teams, including the Pop Cola Panthers, Coca-Cola Tigers, and Barako Bull Energy Boosters.
Abarrientos retired from professional basketball in 2010. However, he remains involved in the sport as a coach. He currently serves as an assistant coach for the FEU Tamaraws, a team in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Abarrientos is widely regarded as one of the best point guards in PBA history. His skill and influence on the court have left a lasting impact on Philippine basketball. He was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 2019, further cementing his legacy in the sport.
