Jonathan Levin is an American economist and the Dean of the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is known for his contributions to the field of microeconomics, particularly in the areas of market design and industrial organization.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Levin was born in the United States. He completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in English. He then attended the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, receiving a Master of Philosophy in Economics. Levin earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Academic Career[edit | edit source]

Levin began his academic career as an assistant professor at Stanford University in 2000. He has held various positions at Stanford, including the Holbrook Working Professor of Price Theory and the Chair of the Department of Economics. In 2016, he was appointed as the Dean of the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Levin's research primarily focuses on microeconomics, with significant contributions to market design, auction theory, and industrial organization. His work has been published in leading academic journals, and he has received numerous awards for his research, including the prestigious John Bates Clark Medal in 2011.
