Jonathan T. Updegraff
Jonathan T. Updegraff (September 4, 1822 – November 30, 1882) was an American physician and politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Ohio. He was a member of the Republican Party.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Jonathan Taylor Updegraff was born in Mount Pleasant, Ohio. He attended the common schools and later graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1845. He began practicing medicine in Mount Pleasant.
Medical career[edit | edit source]
Updegraff was a prominent physician in his community. He was known for his dedication to the medical profession and his commitment to providing care to the underserved populations in his area.
Political career[edit | edit source]
Updegraff was elected as a Republican to the Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses, serving from March 4, 1879, until his death on November 30, 1882. During his tenure, he was known for his advocacy on issues related to public health and veterans' affairs.
Death and legacy[edit | edit source]
Jonathan T. Updegraff died in office on November 30, 1882, in Mount Pleasant, Ohio. He was interred in the Updegraff Cemetery. His contributions to both medicine and politics are remembered in his community and beyond.
