The Journal of Medical Genetics was established in 1964. It is published monthly by the BMJ Group, a global healthcare knowledge provider that publishes over 70 medical and allied science journals.

The journal covers all aspects of human genetics and medical genetics. It publishes original research articles, reviews, and short reports. The journal's scope includes genetic disorders, genomic medicine, genetic testing, and the application of genetics in medical care.
