Judd Winick
Judd Winick (born February 12, 1970) is an American cartoonist, comic book writer, and television writer. He is known for his work on DC Comics' Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and Batman titles, as well as his graphic novel series Pedro and Me and Hilo.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Judd Winick was born in Long Island, New York. He attended the University of Michigan, where he majored in Art and was a member of the Michigan Daily student newspaper.
Career[edit | edit source]
Early Work[edit | edit source]
Winick first gained national attention as a cast member on MTV's The Real World: San Francisco in 1994. His experiences on the show, particularly his friendship with AIDS activist Pedro Zamora, inspired his first graphic novel, Pedro and Me, which was published in 2000.
Comic Books[edit | edit source]
Winick began his career in comics with the series The Adventures of Barry Ween, Boy Genius, which he both wrote and illustrated. He later moved on to work for DC Comics, where he wrote for several major titles, including Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and Batman. His run on Green Lantern is particularly noted for introducing the character Kyle Rayner as the new Green Lantern.
Television[edit | edit source]
In addition to his work in comics, Winick has written for several animated television series, including The Life and Times of Juniper Lee and Ben 10: Alien Force. He also served as a writer and producer for the animated series The Awesomes.
Hilo Series[edit | edit source]
Winick is the creator of the Hilo series, a popular graphic novel series for children. The series follows the adventures of a young boy named Hilo who falls to Earth and discovers he has extraordinary powers.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Winick is married to Pam Ling, whom he met during his time on The Real World: San Francisco. They have two children together.
