Karl Ferdinand von Gräfe
Karl Ferdinand von Gräfe (8 March 1787 – 4 July 1840) was a pioneering German surgeon and a significant figure in the development of plastic surgery. He is often regarded as one of the founders of modern plastic surgery.

Karl Ferdinand von Gräfe was born in Warsaw, which was then part of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. He studied medicine at the University of Halle and the University of Leipzig, where he was influenced by prominent medical educators of the time.
Career[edit | edit source]
Von Gräfe began his medical career as a military surgeon in the Napoleonic Wars. His experiences on the battlefield provided him with extensive practical knowledge and honed his surgical skills. After the wars, he became a professor of surgery at the University of Berlin.

Von Gräfe made numerous contributions to the field of surgery, particularly in the areas of plastic surgery, ophthalmology, and military medicine.
