Kirkland House
Kirkland House is one of the twelve undergraduate residential houses at Harvard University. Located along the banks of the Charles River, Kirkland House is known for its rich history, vibrant community, and notable alumni.

Kirkland House was established in 1931 as part of Harvard's House system, which was designed to provide a smaller, more intimate living and learning environment within the larger university. The house is named after John Thornton Kirkland, who served as President of Harvard from 1810 to 1828. The house was originally composed of the pre-existing Gore Hall and Standish Hall, which were built in 1913.
Architecture[edit | edit source]
The architecture of Kirkland House is a blend of Georgian Revival and Collegiate Gothic styles. The house features a central courtyard, which serves as a communal space for students. The dining hall, with its high ceilings and large windows, is a focal point of the house.

One of the most famous traditions is the annual "Kirkland House Boat Club" race, which takes place on the Charles River.
