Kiruddu General Hospital
Kiruddu General Hospital is a public hospital located in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. It is one of the national referral hospitals in the country, serving as a key medical facility for both the local population and patients from across the country.
Location[edit | edit source]
The hospital is situated in the Kiruddu area of Kampala, on the southern slopes of Makindye Hill. Its location provides easy access for residents of the city and surrounding areas, as well as for patients travelling from further afield.
History[edit | edit source]
Kiruddu General Hospital was established by the Uganda Ministry of Health as part of a wider initiative to improve healthcare provision in the country. The hospital was designed to alleviate pressure on Mulago National Referral Hospital, which was struggling to cope with the high demand for its services.
Services[edit | edit source]
Kiruddu General Hospital offers a wide range of medical services, including general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and emergency medicine. The hospital also has a dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and provides specialist services such as cardiology, neurology, and oncology.
Staff and Training[edit | edit source]
The hospital is staffed by a team of highly trained medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals. Kiruddu General Hospital also serves as a training facility for medical students from various institutions, including Makerere University and Kampala International University.
Challenges[edit | edit source]
Despite its crucial role in Uganda's healthcare system, Kiruddu General Hospital faces a number of challenges. These include a lack of funding, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of medical supplies and equipment. The hospital also struggles with a high patient load, which often results in long waiting times for treatment.
Future Plans[edit | edit source]
The Uganda Ministry of Health has outlined plans to upgrade and expand the facilities at Kiruddu General Hospital. These plans include the construction of a new surgical block and the procurement of additional medical equipment.
