The KCDC was established in December 2003, following the SARS outbreak, which highlighted the need for a centralized public health agency in South Korea. Organizational Structure[edit | edit source]

The KCDC is headed by a Director, who is supported by several divisions and centers, each focusing on specific areas of public health. These include the Division of Infectious Disease Surveillance, the Division of Chronic Disease Prevention, and the National Institute of Health.

COVID-19 Response[edit | edit source]

The KCDC played a pivotal role in South Korea's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The agency implemented widespread testing, contact tracing, and quarantine measures, which were instrumental in controlling the spread of the virus. The KCDC's transparent communication and use of technology were widely praised and served as a model for other countries.
