Kromfohrlander
Kromfohrlander is a breed of dog that originated in Germany after World War II. The breed is recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) and the United Kennel Club (UKC) in the United States. The Kromfohrlander is known for its distinctive appearance, friendly temperament, and good health.
History[edit | edit source]
The Kromfohrlander breed was established by Ilse Schleifenbaum in Germany in the late 1940s. The breed's name, which translates to "crooked furrower," is derived from its tendency to follow crooked furrows in the field. The breed's foundation dog, a male named Peter, was found by American soldiers in France during World War II and brought to Germany, where he was bred with a Fox Terrier.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
The Kromfohrlander is a medium-sized dog, typically weighing between 10 and 14 kilograms (22 and 31 pounds) and standing 38 to 46 centimeters (15 to 18 inches) tall at the shoulder. The breed has two coat types: smooth (Glatthaar) and wirehaired (Rauhaar). Both types have a white coat with brown or tan markings. The breed's most distinctive feature is its expressive face, with dark, medium-sized eyes and a "butterfly" nose.
Temperament[edit | edit source]
Kromfohrlanders are known for their friendly and affectionate nature. They are good with children and other pets, making them excellent family dogs. They are also intelligent and trainable, but can be somewhat stubborn. Kromfohrlanders are typically reserved with strangers, but are not aggressive.
Health[edit | edit source]
Kromfohrlanders are generally healthy dogs, with a lifespan of 12 to 15 years. However, like all breeds, they are prone to certain health conditions. These include hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions. Regular vet check-ups and a balanced diet can help maintain the breed's health.
Care[edit | edit source]
Kromfohrlanders require moderate exercise to stay healthy and happy. This can include daily walks, playtime in the yard, or dog sports like agility and obedience. The breed's coat requires regular brushing to prevent matting and tangling, and the smooth-coated variety may need occasional trimming.
Conclusion[edit | edit source]
The Kromfohrlander is a unique and charming breed that makes a great companion for families and individuals alike. With its friendly temperament, distinctive appearance, and good health, it's no wonder this breed has won the hearts of many dog lovers around the world.
