Lantmännen
Lantmännen is a Swedish agricultural cooperative and one of the largest groups in the agriculture, machinery, energy, and food sectors in the Nordic region. The cooperative is owned by approximately 19,000 Swedish farmers and operates in over 20 countries.
History[edit | edit source]
Lantmännen was founded in 2001 through the merger of several regional agricultural cooperatives in Sweden. The cooperative has its roots in the Swedish agricultural movement that began in the late 19th century, aiming to improve the economic conditions for farmers through cooperation and shared resources.
Operations[edit | edit source]
Lantmännen operates in four main sectors:
Agriculture[edit | edit source]
Lantmännen provides a wide range of products and services to farmers, including seeds, fertilizers, crop protection products, and animal feed. The cooperative also offers advisory services to help farmers improve their productivity and sustainability.
Machinery[edit | edit source]
Lantmännen is a leading supplier of agricultural machinery in the Nordic region. The cooperative sells and services a wide range of equipment, including tractors, harvesters, and other farm machinery. Lantmännen also operates a network of workshops and spare parts centers.
Energy[edit | edit source]
Lantmännen is involved in the production and distribution of renewable energy. The cooperative produces biofuels, such as ethanol and biodiesel, and operates several biogas plants. Lantmännen also invests in wind power and other renewable energy sources.
Food[edit | edit source]
Lantmännen is a major player in the food industry, producing a wide range of food products, including flour, bread, pasta, and breakfast cereals. The cooperative owns several well-known brands, such as AXA, Kungsörnen, and GoGreen. Lantmännen also supplies ingredients to the food industry and operates bakeries and mills.
Sustainability[edit | edit source]
Lantmännen is committed to sustainability and works to reduce its environmental impact across all its operations. The cooperative has set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the use of renewable energy, and promoting sustainable farming practices.
Governance[edit | edit source]
Lantmännen is governed by a board of directors elected by its members. The cooperative's annual general meeting is the highest decision-making body, where members can vote on important issues and elect representatives to the board.
