Lee Kerslake (16 April 1947 – 19 September 2020) was an English musician and songwriter, best known as the longtime drummer and backing vocalist for the rock band Uriah Heep. He was also a member of Ozzy Osbourne's band during the early 1980s.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Lee Kerslake was born in Bournemouth, Dorset, England. He developed an interest in music at a young age and began playing the drums in his teenage years.

Early Bands[edit | edit source]

Before joining Uriah Heep, Kerslake played with several bands, including The Gods, which also featured future Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor.

Uriah Heep[edit | edit source]

Kerslake joined Uriah Heep in 1971, replacing original drummer Nigel Olsson. His first album with the band was Demons and Wizards (1972), which became one of their most successful releases. Kerslake's powerful drumming and backing vocals became a key part of the band's sound. He remained with Uriah Heep until 1979 and then rejoined in 1981, staying until 2007.

Ozzy Osbourne[edit | edit source]

In 1980, Kerslake joined Ozzy Osbourne's band and played on the albums Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman. His tenure with Osbourne was marked by legal disputes over royalties and credits, which were eventually settled in Kerslake's favor.

Later Years[edit | edit source]

After leaving Uriah Heep in 2007 due to health issues, Kerslake continued to be active in music, performing with various bands and participating in tribute projects.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Kerslake was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014, which he battled for several years. He passed away on 19 September 2020 at the age of 73.

Lee Kerslake is remembered for his contributions to rock music, particularly his work with Uriah Heep and Ozzy Osbourne. His drumming style and vocal abilities have influenced many musicians in the rock genre.
