Lenawee County, Michigan is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 99,423. The county seat is Adrian. Lenawee County is part of the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Lenawee County was created in 1822 and organized in 1826. The name Lenawee is believed to be derived from a Native American word meaning "man" or "male." The county played a significant role in the early settlement of Michigan, with many pioneers drawn to the area for its fertile land and abundant resources.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 761 square miles, of which 750 square miles is land and 11 square miles (1.5%) is water. It is bordered by Jackson, Washtenaw, Hillsdale, and Monroe Counties in Michigan, and by Lucas County, Ohio and Fulton County, Ohio to the south.
