) is a Chinese multinational technology company with headquarters in Beijing, China, and Morrisville, North Carolina, United States. It designs, develops, manufactures, and sells personal computers, tablet computers, smartphones, workstations, servers, electronic storage devices, IT management software, and smart televisions.

Lenovo was founded in 1984 in Beijing by a team of engineers led by Liu Chuanzhi. Initially, the company was known as Legend. In 2003, the company rebranded to Lenovo, a portmanteau of "Le-" (from Legend) and "novo," Latin for "new."

In 2005, Lenovo acquired IBM's personal computer business, including the ThinkPad laptop and ThinkCentre desktop lines. This acquisition made Lenovo the third-largest computer maker worldwide. In 2014, Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility from Google, further expanding its smartphone business.

  • ThinkPad: A line of business-oriented laptops.
  • IdeaPad: A line of consumer-oriented laptops.
  • Yoga: A line of convertible laptops and tablets.
  • Legion: A line of gaming laptops and desktops.
  • ThinkCentre: A line of business-oriented desktops.
  • ThinkStation: A line of workstations.
  • Motorola: A line of smartphones.

Lenovo operates in over 60 countries and sells its products in around 180 countries. The company has research centers in Yamato, Japan; Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, China; and Morrisville, North Carolina, United States.

Corporate Structure[edit | edit source]

Lenovo is a publicly traded company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the OTC Pink market. The company's largest shareholder is Legend Holdings, a Chinese investment company.
