Leonard W. Hall (October 2, 1900 – June 2, 1979) was an American politician and lawyer who served as a U.S. Representative from New York. He was a member of the Republican Party and played a significant role in the political landscape of his time.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Leonard Wood Hall was born in Oyster Bay, New York. He attended public schools and later graduated from Colgate University in 1920. He then pursued a law degree from Fordham University School of Law, graduating in 1923. After completing his education, Hall was admitted to the bar and began practicing law in New York City.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Hall's political career began at the local level, where he served as a member of the Oyster Bay Town Board from 1928 to 1938. He was then elected to the New York State Assembly, serving from 1938 to 1942. During his tenure in the State Assembly, Hall was known for his work on various legislative committees and his advocacy for local issues.

In 1942, Hall was elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing New York's 1st congressional district. He served in the House from January 3, 1943, to December 31, 1952. During his time in Congress, Hall was a member of several important committees, including the House Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Armed Services. He was known for his strong stance on national defense and fiscal responsibility.

Later Career and Legacy[edit | edit source]

After leaving Congress, Hall continued to be active in politics. He served as the Chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1953 to 1957. In this role, he was instrumental in organizing the party's efforts during the 1956 presidential election, which saw the re-election of Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Hall retired from active politics in the late 1950s but remained a respected figure in the Republican Party. He passed away on June 2, 1979, in Glen Cove, New York.
