Leopold Bros.
Leopold Bros. is a family-owned and operated distillery located in Denver, Colorado, United States. Founded by brothers Todd and Scott Leopold in 1999, the company is known for its wide range of spirits, including whiskey, gin, vodka, and liqueurs.
History[edit | edit source]
The Leopold Bros. distillery was originally established in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1999. The brothers, who had backgrounds in microbiology and engineering, initially started with a brewpub before transitioning into distilling. In 2008, they moved their operations to Denver, Colorado, where they built a state-of-the-art, environmentally sustainable distillery.
Products[edit | edit source]
Leopold Bros. produces a variety of spirits, each with its unique production process and ingredients. Their product line includes:
- Leopold Bros. American Small Batch Whiskey: This whiskey is made from a blend of corn, malted barley, and rye, and aged in white American oak barrels.
- Leopold Bros. Navy Strength American Gin: A higher-proof gin that is distilled with a variety of botanicals, including juniper, coriander, and citrus peel.
- Leopold Bros. Rocky Mountain Blackberry Liqueur: A fruit liqueur made with blackberries sourced from the Rocky Mountain region.
Distillation Process[edit | edit source]
Leopold Bros. is known for its traditional distillation methods. The company uses a combination of pot stills and column stills in their distillation process. They also malt their own barley, a rarity in the American distilling industry.
Sustainability[edit | edit source]
The Leopold Bros. distillery was designed with sustainability in mind. The facility uses a closed-loop energy system, which recycles the heat generated during distillation to heat the facility and its water. The company also sources its ingredients locally whenever possible, reducing its carbon footprint.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
Over the years, Leopold Bros. has received numerous awards for its spirits. These include gold medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Spirits Challenge.
