Lisa Mirabello

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Lisa Mirabello is an American epidemiologist and cancer researcher known for her work in the field of human papillomavirus (HPV) and cancer epidemiology. She is currently a tenure-track investigator at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where she leads the Molecular Epidemiology of HPV and Virus Interactions Team.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Mirabello was born and raised in the United States. She completed her undergraduate studies in biology and chemistry before pursuing a Master's degree in Public Health and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology. Her doctoral research focused on the epidemiology of HPV and its role in the development of cervical cancer.

Career[edit | edit source]

Following her graduation, Mirabello joined the NCI as a postdoctoral fellow. She was later promoted to a tenure-track investigator position, where she currently leads a team focused on the molecular epidemiology of HPV and virus interactions.

Mirabello's research primarily focuses on understanding the genetic and environmental factors that influence the risk of HPV infection and progression to cancer. She has made significant contributions to the field, including identifying novel genetic markers associated with cervical cancer risk and elucidating the role of HPV in the development of other cancers.

Research[edit | edit source]

Mirabello's research has been widely recognized for its impact on our understanding of HPV and cancer. Her work has led to the identification of several key genetic markers associated with cervical cancer risk. Additionally, she has contributed to our understanding of the role of HPV in the development of other cancers, such as oropharyngeal cancer and anal cancer.

Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]

Mirabello has received numerous awards and recognition for her work, including the NCI Director's Intramural Innovation Award and the NIH Director's Award.
