DC Comics is one of the largest and most successful companies operating in the market for American comic books. Over the years, DC Comics has created several imprints to publish works that may not fit within the traditional superhero genre or the main DC Universe. Below is a list of notable DC Comics imprints:
Vertigo[edit | edit source]
Vertigo was launched in 1993 to publish mature readers titles. It became known for its creator-owned series and for publishing works that were more adult-oriented and experimental compared to the main DC line. Notable titles include The Sandman, Preacher, and Y: The Last Man.
WildStorm[edit | edit source]
WildStorm was originally an independent company founded by Jim Lee before being acquired by DC Comics in 1999. It published titles such as WildC.A.T.s, Gen¹³, and The Authority. WildStorm was known for its superhero and science fiction themes.
Milestone Media[edit | edit source]
Milestone Media was founded in 1993 by a coalition of African-American artists and writers to address the underrepresentation of minorities in comic books. It published titles such as Static, Icon, and Hardware. Milestone Media was known for its diverse characters and socially relevant storytelling.
Elseworlds[edit | edit source]
Elseworlds was an imprint used to publish alternate reality stories that took familiar DC characters and placed them in different settings or situations. Notable titles include Batman: Gotham by Gaslight and Superman: Red Son.
Black Label[edit | edit source]
DC Black Label was launched in 2018 to publish mature readers titles that are not constrained by the continuity of the main DC Universe. It focuses on standalone stories and graphic novels. Notable titles include Batman: Damned and Harleen.
Young Animal[edit | edit source]
Young Animal was launched in 2016 under the direction of Gerard Way. It focuses on experimental and avant-garde storytelling. Notable titles include Doom Patrol and Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye.
Earth One[edit | edit source]
Earth One is an imprint that publishes graphic novels featuring reimagined versions of DC's iconic characters. These stories are set in a separate continuity from the main DC Universe. Notable titles include Superman: Earth One and Batman: Earth One.
Impact Comics[edit | edit source]
Impact Comics was an imprint launched in 1991 in collaboration with Archie Comics. It aimed to create a new line of superhero comics targeted at younger readers. Notable titles include The Fly and The Comet.
