List of Chemical Elements by Name
The Periodic Table of Elements is a tabular arrangement of the chemical elements, organized on the basis of their atomic numbers, electron configurations, and recurring chemical properties. Elements are presented in order of increasing atomic number. This article provides a list of chemical elements by their names, including both the common and IUPAC names where applicable.

- Hydrogen - The lightest element, hydrogen is a gas at room temperature and is the most abundant chemical substance in the universe.
- Helium - A noble gas that is the second lightest and second most abundant element in the observable universe.
- Lithium - The lightest metal and the least dense solid element, lithium is used in rechargeable batteries for mobile phones, laptops, and electric vehicles.
- Beryllium - A rare element in the universe, beryllium is used as a hardening agent in alloys, most notably beryllium copper.
- Boron - Used in glass and ceramics, boron fibers are known for their high strength and lightweight.
- Carbon - Essential to life, carbon forms a vast number of compounds, more than any other element, with almost ten million compounds described to date.
- Nitrogen - Makes up 78% of the Earth's atmosphere and is used in the production of ammonia for fertilizers.
- Oxygen - Essential for respiration in most living organisms, oxygen also makes up 21% of the Earth's atmosphere.
- Fluorine - The most electronegative element, fluorine is extremely reactive, especially with metals.
- Neon - A noble gas, neon is used in signs and produces an unmistakable bright reddish-orange light.
- Sodium - A highly reactive metal, sodium is used in many industrial processes and is essential for life.
- Magnesium - Known for its low density and ability to withstand high temperatures, magnesium is used in alloys.
- Aluminum - The most abundant metal in the Earth's crust, aluminum is used in a vast number of applications, from aircraft manufacturing to packaging.
- Silicon - A metalloid, silicon is the second most abundant element in the Earth's crust and is used in semiconductors and solar cells.
- Phosphorus - Essential for life, phosphorus is used in fertilizers and matches.
- Sulfur - Known for its distinctive smell, sulfur is used in fertilizers, gunpowder, and insecticides.
- Chlorine - Used in the production of drinking water and in swimming pools to kill harmful bacteria.
- Argon - A noble gas, argon is used in lighting and welding to provide an inert atmosphere.
- Potassium - A highly reactive metal, potassium is essential for plant growth and is a major component of fertilizers.
