- Liu Jianlun - A physician from Guangdong, China, who is believed to have played a significant role in spreading the virus to Hong Kong. He died from the disease in March 2003.
- Jiang Yanyong - A Chinese military doctor who exposed the true scale of the SARS outbreak in Beijing, later contracting the disease himself. However, his exact status and whether he succumbed to the disease remains unclear.
