List of Vaping Bans in the United States

The List of Vaping Bans in the United States refers to the various laws and regulations that have been enacted by different states, counties, and cities in the United States to control or prohibit the use of e-cigarettes or vaping products. These bans have been implemented due to health concerns associated with vaping and the increasing use of e-cigarettes among youth.

Background[edit | edit source]

Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling the aerosol, often referred to as vapor, produced by an e-cigarette or similar device. The term is used because e-cigarettes do not produce tobacco smoke, but rather an aerosol, often mistaken for water vapor, that consists of fine particles.

Federal Regulations[edit | edit source]

At the federal level, the FDA has regulatory authority over e-cigarettes. In 2016, the FDA finalized a rule extending their regulatory authority to cover all tobacco products, including vaporizers, vape pens, hookah pens, electronic cigarettes (E-Cigarettes), e-pipes, and all other ENDS.

State Regulations[edit | edit source]

Different states have different regulations regarding vaping. Some states, like California, have implemented statewide bans on the sale of flavored tobacco products, including e-cigarettes. Other states, like Massachusetts, have implemented temporary bans on all vaping products.

Local Regulations[edit | edit source]

In addition to state and federal regulations, many local governments have also implemented their own vaping bans. For example, San Francisco became the first major city in the U.S. to ban the sale of e-cigarettes in 2019.
