Lledoner Pelut
Lledoner Pelut is a grape variety that originates from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France. It is also known as Grenache Poilu and Garnacha Peluda in Spain. The name "Lledoner Pelut" translates to "hairy Grenache" due to the distinctive fuzzy underside of the grape leaves.
History[edit | edit source]
The exact origins of the Lledoner Pelut grape are unknown, but it is believed to have originated in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. It is a mutation of the Grenache grape, one of the most widely planted red wine grape varieties in the world. The Lledoner Pelut grape is less common than its parent variety, but it is still grown in certain areas of France and Spain.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Lledoner Pelut grapes are medium to large in size and have a round shape. The skin of the grape is thick and dark blue-black in color. The leaves of the vine are distinctive due to their fuzzy underside, which gives the variety its name.
The wines produced from Lledoner Pelut grapes are typically full-bodied and high in alcohol. They have a deep red color and flavors of dark fruit, spice, and earth. These wines are often used in blends to add complexity and structure.
Viticulture[edit | edit source]
Lledoner Pelut is a late-ripening variety that requires a warm climate to fully mature. It is resistant to drought and disease, making it well-suited to the dry, hot conditions of the Languedoc-Roussillon region. The grape is typically harvested in late September or early October.
Wine Production[edit | edit source]
Lledoner Pelut is used both in single varietal wines and in blends. In France, it is often blended with other local varieties such as Syrah and Mourvedre. In Spain, it is commonly blended with Garnacha and Carignan. The wines are typically aged in oak barrels to enhance their flavor and complexity.
