Loblaws
Loblaws Super Centre is a supermarket chain owned by Loblaws, a subsidiary of Loblaw Companies Limited, the largest food retailer in Canada. The Super Centre concept was introduced in the late 1980s and early 1990s, offering a wider range of products and services than traditional Loblaws stores.
History[edit | edit source]
The first Loblaws Super Centre was opened in the late 1980s in Ontario, Canada. The concept was designed to compete with other large-format retailers, offering a wider range of products and services than traditional Loblaws stores. The Super Centres are typically larger than regular Loblaws stores, with some locations exceeding 100,000 square feet.
Products and Services[edit | edit source]
Loblaws Super Centres offer a wide range of products and services, including groceries, household items, clothing, and pharmacy services. The stores also feature a variety of specialty departments, such as a bakery, deli, and seafood department. Some locations also offer additional services, such as a photo lab, optical services, and a walk-in clinic.
Expansion[edit | edit source]
In the early 2000s, Loblaws began expanding the Super Centre concept across Canada. Today, there are Loblaws Super Centres in several provinces, including Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta. The expansion has been part of Loblaws' strategy to compete with other large-format retailers, such as Walmart and Costco.
