Louis-Léon Lesieur Désaulniers
Louis-Léon Lesieur Désaulniers (May 1, 1823 – March 6, 1896) was a Canadian politician and lawyer. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and later as a member of the House of Commons of Canada.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Louis-Léon Lesieur Désaulniers was born on May 1, 1823, in Yamachiche, Lower Canada. He pursued his early education in local schools before studying law. He was called to the bar in 1847 and began practicing law in Trois-Rivières.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Désaulniers entered politics as a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada for the Yamaska constituency, serving from 1854 to 1861. He was a member of the Parti bleu, a conservative political party in Lower Canada.
In 1867, following the Canadian Confederation, Désaulniers was elected to the House of Commons of Canada as a representative for the Saint-Maurice constituency. He served in this capacity until 1872. During his tenure, he was known for his advocacy on issues related to the legal profession and regional development.
Later Life and Legacy[edit | edit source]
After retiring from politics, Désaulniers continued to practice law and remained active in his community. He passed away on March 6, 1896, in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
Désaulniers' contributions to Canadian politics and law have been recognized in various historical records. His career reflects the political landscape of Canada during the mid-19th century and the early years of the Confederation.
