Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) is a prestigious public university located in Munich, Germany. Founded in 1472 by Duke Ludwig IX of Bavaria-Landshut, it is one of the oldest and most renowned universities in Germany. The university is named after its founder as well as Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria, who moved the university to Landshut in 1800 before it was relocated to Munich in 1826.
