Mackinac County is a county located in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,113. The county seat is St. Ignace. The county's name is pronounced "MACK-in-awe" and it was formerly spelled as "Michilimackinac".

Geography[edit | edit source]

Mackinac County is located at the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, with Lake Huron and Lake Michigan serving as natural boundaries. The county is largely rural, with small towns scattered throughout.

Mackinac County was created on October 26, 1818, from parts of Wayne County. It was first divided into townships in 1827.
