Manoj Bhargava was born in Lucknow, India, in 1953. He moved to the United States with his family at the age of 14. Bhargava attended The Hill School, a preparatory boarding school in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. He later enrolled at Princeton University but left after one year to pursue other interests.

Bhargava initially worked in the family business before venturing into his own entrepreneurial endeavors. He founded 5-hour Energy in 2004, which quickly became a leading brand in the energy drink market. The product's success significantly increased Bhargava's wealth, making him one of the wealthiest individuals in the United States.

In 2015, Bhargava launched the Billions in Change initiative, which focuses on creating and implementing solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems. The initiative has developed several innovative technologies, including the RainMaker device for water purification and the Free Electric bicycle, which generates electricity through pedaling.
