Manokotak

Manokotak is a city located in the Dillingham Census Area, Alaska, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population of the city was 442, making it a small but significant community within the region.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Manokotak is located at 58°58′52″N 159°3′21″W (58.981111, -159.055833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 37.2 square miles (96 km2), of which, 35.7 square miles (92 km2) of it is land and 1.5 square miles (3.9 km2) of it (4.03%) is water.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the census of 2000, there were 399 people, 89 households, and 76 families residing in the city. The population density was 11.2 people per square mile (4.3/km²). There were 94 housing units at an average density of 2.6 per square mile (1.0/km²).

Healthcare[edit | edit source]

Manokotak is served by a Clinic and a Village Health Clinic. The clinics are equipped to handle minor injuries and common illnesses, and can conduct routine health screenings. For more serious conditions, patients are referred to larger medical facilities in nearby cities.

Education[edit | edit source]

The Southwest Region School District operates the Manokotak Nunaniq School in Manokotak. It serves grades Pre-K through 12.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Manokotak is not connected to any other cities by road. However, it has a state-owned 3,100 foot long by 60 foot wide gravel airstrip. Regular flights are provided by Peninsula Airways and Grant Aviation.
